Since mosquitoes are soft-bodied insects the garlic juice can be very toxic to them in increased concentrations. The juice does not harm humans or pets or plants, but to mosquitoes it can be deadly. The odor of it chases them out of the area and they stay away - for as long as they can detect the odor. While the odor of sprayed garlic juice becomes undetectable to humans within hours, the mosquitoes will still detect it. Mosquitoes have extremely sensitive odor sensing antennae - as high as 10,000 times better than humans. They can detect the garlic extract for much longer periods of time and will stay away from the sprayed area for up to a month and more. If the mosquitoes aren't in your yard, they can't get into your house.
Additionally, Mosquito Barrier, when mixed with soybean oil (available at your local grocery store) plus the water, coats any standing water in the area with a very thin film of natural oil, including some garlic oil which is present in the garlic juice. This oil suffocates the mosquito larvae which are developing in any standing water. Mosquito Barrier, unlike chemicals, doesn't kill the bees, butterflies or birds.
Generally, four applications are enough for the entire mosquito and tick season for the average sized home and two quarts of Mosquito Barrier are all that are normally required.
Mosquito Barrier is a three pronged attack:
- It kills the adult mosquitoes on contact.
- The garlic coated plants keep mosquitoes out of the area.
- It suffocates any mosquito larvae in standing water, such as puddles, under decks, water in tin cans or depressions in lawn, etc.
A quart covers 1.25 acres after dilution.
MIXING & SPRAYING INSTRUCTIONS FOR AVERAGE RESIDENTIAL PLOTS:
Canister type sprayers are available at your local hardware store, etc. and generally cost about $16-$20 each and hold from 2 to 3 gallons of liquid. Canister sprayers must be pumped up with air pressure and they have a wand for spraying. The formula for a 2 gallon canister sprayer is: 3 ounces Mosquito Barrier, 3 ounces soybean or other oil and 1 table spoon of Palmolive liquid dishwashing soap or (as an alternative) insecticidal soap (available from local nurseries).

Mix well and spray.
